This totally original 498cc Velocette motorcycle is a rare find. It was purchased new in 1946 from Alexander’s Motor Cycles, Aberdeen, by the donor (Harry Golding) who paid £80 for it.
It is the typical Velocette engine design with a high camshaft/short pushrod. It has girder fork front suspension and solid rear suspension – with road shocks being reduced to the riders by large seat springs. It had a top speed of 80 mph and could cruise at 55mph two up. The motorcycle would consume 80 mpg of fuel and was also used for reliable touring all over Scotland and Northern England. It was used regularly up until 1957 (tax disc still in place) but a wife, baby daughter and a Morris Minor relegated the bike to the back of the shed by 1958!

Its rarity lies in the fact that we have a totally original vehicle, unrestored, original paint, and just as it was when it was put away for the last time 55 years ago. The engine still turns over sweetly and we suspect that with a little fettling and some fuel, it would run again.
