Originally built in 1969 by Peter Harman, who raced it both solo and with sidecar until 1973. El Lobo (the wolf) achieved solo a 10.1 second standing quarter, terminal speed 147mph and a sidecar best of 11.18 seconds and 135 mph. The machine took the world record in 1972 at 11.69 seconds and 131mph.

Triumph twin engines were clear favourites for record breaking specials for many years until the Triumph triples took over briefly before the advent of TZ 750 Yamaha engines. El Lobo uses a single pre-unit Triumph twin of 650cc with stronger crankcases made by John Lees, shorter stronger con rods, one piece crankshaft, T140 pistons, Morgo 750 barrels and a standard Triumph 9 stud head. The power output is raised from 45bhp to 110bhp using an M62 Eaton supercharger giving 20psi boost and burning methanol.
