William Murray's coachbuilding business was established in Alford in 1868. The company produced a range of horse carriages and also repaired vehicles and wheels.
In 1896 Murrays took delivery of Donside's first motorcar and assembled it for the customer a Dr. Howie of Strathdon. They were quick to realise the potential of the new 'horseless carriage' and rapidly became a motor garage. Very few of Murrays's horse carriages have survived.
This one was restored by the late Dennis Paterson at his home in Bristol. How it found its way so far south is a mystery!
