In 2007, the BMW R1200RT was adopted by UK police forces to replace the previous Honda ST1200. The bike was chosen to be its replacement due to the bike’s better handling qualities than the previous Honda. BMW made the bikes specifically for the police service with optional extras for radios and storage.

This bike was based out of Nelson Street Police station in Aberdeen. However, the bike has seen service all over Scotland - patrolling roads from Perth to Wick and across to the isle of Skye. The bike finally retired due to a mechanical failure in mid-2019 and was donated by Police Scotland to the Museum a few months later.
