Excelsior were Britains first motorcycle manufacturer starting production in 1896. Like many other motorcycle manufacturers at the time, they started manufacturing Autocycles during the boom in the 1930s along with other machines in different capacities. The 98cc Autobyke was the smallest produced at the time, starting production in 1937.

This particular Autobyke was produced in 1939 just before the beginning of WW2. We have limited history of this Excelsior.
