Grampian Transport Museum receives funding to preserve heritage skills
The vital skills and specialist tools that keep vintage vehicles alive and running are at the...
Grampian Transport Museum has been inspiring visitors, preserving transport heritage, and creating memorable experiences for over 40 years. As we look towards the future, we are seeking new Trustees to support the museum through an exciting period of development and growth.
As a registered charity, the museum is governed by a Board of Trustees who provide strategic leadership, ensure good governance, and help us deliver our charitable objectives, supported by an established executive team in the museum. Our trustees play a vital role in shaping the organisation's future and supporting the team to achieve ambitious plans for the museum and the collection we care for.
But we need you!
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in accounting who can help strengthen the board’s skills in this area. However, we warmly welcome enquiries from anyone who shares our passion for heritage, education, skills, and transport history.
You do not need to be a transport enthusiast to become a trustee. We value a diverse range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. Whether your background is in business, education, marketing, fundraising, governance, engineering, heritage, or another field entirely, your knowledge and insight will make a meaningful contribution.
Keeping our transport heritage alive
GTM is entering an exciting new chapter. Alongside caring for our collection, we are developing ambitious projects that will preserve heritage skills, engage new audiences, enhance our visitor experience, and strengthen our role within the community.
Recent investment by both the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Museums Galleries Scotland in our Heritage Skills programme and plans for future development mean that this is a particularly exciting time to join the board. Trustees will have the opportunity to help support these major projects and ensure the long-term sustainability of the museum as a self-funding, independent charity. The decisions made today will help determine how future generations experience, learn from, and engage with Scotland's transport heritage at GTM.
We are looking for trustees who can help us deliver this vision and ensure the museum continues to thrive for generations to come.
But what does being a trustee involve?
Trustees attend quarterly board meetings and work collaboratively to:
Joining GTM as a trustee is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your skills to a respected local charity.
Why be a trustee?
Becoming a trustee offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a successful and ambitious museum and charity. You will work alongside a dedicated board and executive team, helping to guide the museum's future while developing your own experience in charity governance and strategic leadership.
Whether you can contribute professional expertise, sector knowledge, community connections, or simply a passion for our mission, your involvement can help ensure that Grampian Transport Museum continues to educate, inspire, and bring people together through a shared interest in transport heritage.
Sound like a bit of you?
If you are passionate about supporting Grampian Transport Museum and would like to learn more about becoming a trustee, we would be delighted to hear from you. An initial conversation is a great way to find out more about the role, our current priorities, and how your skills could contribute to our future.
To express an interest or arrange an informal discussion, please contact us using the Contact Us page at the bottom of our website, or send us an email on hello@gtm.org.uk.
