Job title: Events and Relationships Manager 
Reports to: Museum Manager 
Hours: 40 hours - flexibility throughout operational hours is required, Monday to Sunday to support the events programme. We are open to discussions around flexible working – please get in touch!  
Seasonal/Permanent: The successful candidate will be hired initially on a fixed term basis until May 31st 2023 however there is scope for the role to become permanent should the role prove to be successful. 
Rate of pay: Dependent on experience but we anticipate the successful candidate being employed on a £25,000 salary (based on full time), we are also open to applications from candidates who cannot commit to full time work but can deliver the outcomes of the role on a part time basis.  

Purpose of role: 
This role contributes to the success of Grampian Transport Museum by managing, driving and delivering our events programme and events bookings, supporting with developing the concept and delivering of the Heritage Skills Workshops and cultivating relationships with other organisations and/or interested parties to take full advantage of what Grampian Transport Museum has to offer.  

Key responsibilities: 

  • Supporting the Assistant Curator (Events) with the planning, co-ordination and delivery of our events programme for 2022.  
  • In conjunction with the Events Working Group, plan and co-ordinate the events programme for 2023. Should the role become permanent, the postholder will be responsible for delivery moving forward. 
  • In conjunction with the Skills Workshop Working Group, plan, co-ordinate and deliver the Heritage Skills Workshop programme for 2022. This is a pilot scheme for 2022 so an understanding of how to evaluate success and generate recommendations for development would be beneficial. 
  • Gather insight, collate and present findings to both museum leadership and our trustees to inform decision making in regards to our events programme.  
  • Manage the finances of the events programme within set boundaries.  
  • Support with marketing activity for the museum to develop our audience and visitor numbers.  
  • Develop and maintain an adequate knowledge of the collection and exhibitions. 
  • Maintaining brand standards throughout the museum 
  • Comply with our security, health and safety policies and procedures, giving feedback where necessary. 
  • Support with the day to day operation of the museum, where required, giving direction and leadership in the absence of senior museum management.  

Key skills required: 

  • IT literacy is essential as many of our processes are digital i.e. ticketing system, point of sale, task management and schedules.  
  • Exceptional customer service skills are essential to this role as it is customer facing and will involve handling queries and questions from our visitors and stakeholders involved in events.  
  • Team working skills are also essential, alongside good communication skills.  
  • Building rapport and excellent relationship management skills will be essential for the success of this role. 
  • An Events Management qualification would be desirable but this is not essential where there is adequate experience and knowledge able to be displayed.  
  • Knowledge of health and safety in relation to events is also desirable to support our Assistant Curator (Events).  
  • An understanding of how to set up a pilot programme, plan, organise, deliver and evaluate the same would be desirable but not essential 
  • An understanding of marketing, particularly digital marketing, alongside a willingness or ability to design and create marketing collateral is desirable.  
  • An understanding of transport is desirable – we are a transport museum with a focus on land transport in the North East of Scotland and our events programme currently revolve around a transport theme, with scope to diversify into others
