The course will be an introduction to electrical components and their maintenance for heritage vehicles. It is aimed at those interested in historic transport with only a basic knowledge of the skills and techniques involved. It will cover:
- Basic principles
- Batteries and chargers
- Dynamos and Alternators
- Voltage regulators and cutouts
- Ignition timing
- Starter motors
- Wiring, harnesses, fuses and relays
- Auxiliaries, horns, fuel pumps etc.
- Questions and answers
It is not intended to cover trembler coils seen in Veteran Car ignition systems unless there is a specific interest. Equally it will not cover modern solid state ignition.
The course will be primarily a presentation with practical demonstrations covering areas such as battery management and ignition timing.
It will be followed by a guided tour of historic vehicles in the Collection Centre with the opportunity to see under the bonnets (not an opportunity for general visitors!)
